Professor Carel le Roux graduated from medical school in Pretoria South Africa, completed his Senior House Officer training at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, his Specialist Registrar training in metabolic medicine at the Hammersmith Hospitals and his PhD at Imperial College London. He was appointed as Senior Lecturer and later promoted to Reader at Imperial. He started his role as Chair of Pathology at University College Dublin in 2012 where he now works within the Diabetes Complications Research Centre. He previously received a President of Ireland Young Researcher Award, Clinician Scientist Award from the National Institute Health Research in the UK, a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Fellowship and an Anglo American Open Scholarship. Dr. le Roux is recognized for his work in the role of appetite and metabolism in obesity and diabetes.
