This is a very basic how to video on changing a wiper transmission on a 2003 Saturn Ion. No timing the windshield wipers. Meaning everything else in the video won't be of any help unless you know how to time your windshield wipers. I'm just a beginner in all this mechanical stuff, so this video is for a beginner like me, who has no mechanical knowledge but doesn't understand a lot of mechanic lingo. This is mostly a video to test out the YouTube Capture App capabilities.


A tip I found on timing your windshield wipers:
It's best to take a picture of your old wiper transmission before you take it out of your car and then place the old wiper transmission next to the new wiper transmission and take a few pictures that way too. Same goes for if it's only the wiper motor that's bad.


Check threading on windshield wiper arms & rotators:
Another factor I forgot to mention in this video is that the windshield wiper arms that fit over the rotators need to have threads. The rotators have to have threads too, because if the windshield wiper arm slots are stripped, they can't be pulled to wipe. If they can't be pulled to wipe, you'll never know if you timed the wiper transmission right. Something to check first when removing the windshield wipers.

The threading is what really put me behind on timing my windshield wipers. I bought a used wiper transmission only to later find out the slots on my windshield wiper arms, that fit over the rotators, were stripped. So then I had to go back to the junkyard shop and find a pair of used windshield wiper arms with good threading slots. It eventually became to cold for me to be outside and I ran out of time. If I could have figured out the problem with the windshield wipers sooner, I'm positive I could have had the windshield wipers timed right. It's hard to tell how many times I may have timed the windshield wipers right when the windshield wiper slots were stripped. Lol.
