Albania's first photo studio opened in 1858 by Pjeter Marubi in Shkodra, Albania.
Pjeter Marubi (1834-1903) was a master of photography, who's work captured life in Albania for the world to see.
The second generation of the Marubi photographers were brothers Mati Kodheli and Kel Kodheli. Kel distinguished himself in portraits. He was so closely attached to his Marubi that after his death, he took on Marubi's surname. The third generation of photographers of Studio Marubi is represented by Gege Marubi, Kel's son. Gege was superior to his predecessors both in professional and artistic culture. He used contemporary techniques of photography, especially, infrared rays, solarisation and relief photography. In 1970 Gege Marubi donated the phototeque of his Studio to the Albanian people.
