In this 2020 lecture, Jess Owen from Welney Wetland talked about Project Godwit - a species-restoration initiative based at WWT Welney Wetland Centre. The project involves collecting wild eggs from Black-tailed godwits and rearing them at Welney, before releasing them into the wild when they are ready to fledge. The project team are hoping that this captive rearing and release project will restore the wild population of breeding black-tailed godwits in the fens where, before the project began, there were just 50 breeding pairs in the area.
