The National Sports Centre at Crystal Palace cost 2¾ million pounds - but it's worth every penny. There is an eight lane racing pool with electronic timing. A new diving pool and a third pool for teaching beginners. Special observation panels make it easy for coaches to observe faults in a driver's under-water technique. It contains facilities for every conceivable event - including a fine cycle track. Unfortunately it has opened too late to have much affect on results at Tokyo, but its full worth should be proved by the time the next Olympics are held.
