In this motorcycle service video, we are removing the starter from a Honda Goldwing GL1200.
You will have to remove or loosen the engine guard, remove the headpipe, and the exhaust manifold bolt closest to the starter motor.
This is a straight forward motorcycle repair.
There will likely be some difficulty associated with loosening the muffler to allow for headpipe remove. It will help to use some penetrating lube on the bolts and around the connections and joints prior to attempting to do this job. A little planning on this part will go a long way. Be patient and go easy.
This is a 2 out of 5 wrenches job, provided you have some mechanical experience. This will become a 5 out of 5 wrenches job if you break the bolts that mount the starter!
The bolts holding the starter motor in place broke on me when I tried to loosen them, I was still able to remove the starter motor as the bolts broke off flush, or I would have had to drill them before removing the motor. With the starter removed it will still be a careful job to remove them.
