artist statement:

I compiled some footage of a hiking trip I recently went on with my father, juxtaposing it with a sketchbook entry of mine. The hike to point reyes was simply beautiful, and many times ever since then, these are some things that have been on my mind.

There is a lot that I have not shared about my childhood, and my relationship with my biological dad. The entry sheds like on a conversation I've had with myself quite often, and so it is included in the process-painting of this sketchbook entry.

It is important that I include a part of my stream of consciousness when showcasing my work, specifically when it derives from a very personal and complex point of view. I often am asked how or where I draw inspiration from, and really I most often look within me for that, instead of elsewhere. What circumstances and experiences that made me into the artist I am is the same source that pushes me to think and create the way I do.

Perhaps it is also helpful for some of you to see that drawing, painting, particularly in sketchbooks- can be very therapeutic. I treat it as an outlet for my thoughts, a way to exercise my expression, rather than achieving a goal of making something worth looking at. Embrace the flaws, and love them.
