Why is there more than one type of animal? Learn how selective pressure creates different types of animals, plants, and bacteria! Please subscribe to continue learning what makes life AWESOME: [ Ссылка ]
All living things need access to basic resources. Food, space, water, air, shelter. But all living things are slightly different due to random genetic changes. And some of those genetic changes make it easier (or harder) to get the basic resources of life. If an organism gets more resources and makes more offspring, its genes become more common in the population.
If the forces that made the parent organism successful are consistent enough, they drive more and more of the population to express that set of genes.
That's the basic principle in natural selection. Useful traits become more common, less useful traits become less common.
In this video we give an animated example of natural selection that might happen in your own kitchen. You can even run this experiment yourself if you want.
I hope this teaches you something worth knowing!
