Hatirjheel, A lake front in Dhaka. Once a slum converted into recreation area as well as an alternate way to ease traffic congestion. It was inaugurated on January 2nd 2013 by the honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
The history leading to Hatirjheel says that, legend has it that the elephants of Dhaka's Pilkhana used to take baths in these wetlands – hence the name Hatirjheel.
Restaurants and street foods are also in proximity to enjoy a nice evening by the lake. If you are tired of walking around, you can taste the traditional Bengali food from the restaurants. Thai and Chinese items are also available in the restaurants. The price is quite reasonable.
It is a safe place to hang on with family and friends though kids have to kept under assistance due to the river and lake.
The area has been decorated with flowering shrubs and trees. Numerous tourists and pedestrians visit the site every alternate evening to enjoy the reflection of light and the fresh air which helps them to relax and unwind after a tiring day at work.
