In part 1 of this series, Gerry Baird provides a brief overview of IBM Voice Gateway and how you can use a service orchestration engine (SOE) to expand its capabilities. With IBM Voice Gateway, you can connect call centers to IBM Watson services so that customers can directly interact with Watson, much like a chatbot. He also explains and demonstrates how a service orchestration engine (SOE) enables you to intercept text before it is sent to the Watson Conversation service, so that you can process the data with other APIs, perform database lookups, and more. In his example, he uses a Node-RED-based SOE to connect to a decision service running on IBM Operation Decision Management (ODM) to calculate and provide a personalized life insurance quote.
