ELVAN WINS GOLD MEDAL 3 DAYS AFTER SURVIVING A FLOOD
Turkey's Elvan Abeylegesse won the women's 10,000m gold medal with a European leading time of 31.10.24 on Wednesday night, at European Athletics Championships at Barcelona's Olympic stadium. Abeylegesse's victory came just 3 days after she was trapped in the middle of a flood in Erzurum, where she had been camping at 2,000m-altitute of Palandöken Highlands in eastern Turkey. ...

Turkish athlete finished the race in 31 minutes 10.23 seconds, 12 seconds ahead of Russia's Inga Abitova. Portuguese runner Jessica Augusto finished in third place.

Elvan Abeylegesse's victory came just 3 days after she was trapped in the middle of a flood in Erzurum, where she had been camping at 2,000m-altitute of Palandöken Highlands. The national athlete was eventually rescued with a 'digger'. She took a flight to İstanbul on the same day, to Barcelona from there, and won the gold medal on Wednesday night, just 3 days after surviving the flood.
