Shimano Cleats - we all use them (though a handfull of us also use Look and Speedplay...) - but the vast majority of us road cyclists use Shimano SPD pedals and cleats - as have I for many years without issue.
Then, a couple of months ago a cleat failed mid ride with my left foot shooting forward out of the pedal - luckily I stayed on and figured I must have damaged the cleat - then the week before filming another Shimano cleat let go, fortunatly whilst on the turbo - if either had failed whilst out of the saddle or riding hard I`d have hit the deck for sure.
Why? Fake Shimano cleats from ebay - sold as Shimano, packaged and marked as Shimano but NOT Shimano and these are super dangerous - if I`ve had two dangerous pairs I guarantee there`s loads out there.
Watch this video and check your cleats carefully - if in doubt change the cleats for a pair from a trusted source - FORGET EBAY FOR SHIMANO CLEATS!!!
