WHAT IS THE MUDA CASE?
The case involves alleged wrongdoings in site allotments by Mysore Urban Development Authority aka MUDA. As pe the allegations, some people received more alternative sites than they should have under a 50:50 scheme. Which allowed land owners to get 50% of the developed sites, with MUDA keeping the other half. This scheme was started in November 2020 but was ended by CM Siddaramaiah in 2023. Activists claim Siddaramaiah's wife, Parvathi, was given 14 premium sites in Vijayanagar in 2022 which was against the rules.
At the center of the allegations is a 3.16 acre plot in Mysuru's Kesaru village, which was reportedly transferred to Siddaramaiah's brother-in-law, Mallikarjun Swamy, in 2005. Parvathi received this land as a gift in 2010, but MUDA later acquired it for development and allocated her alternative sites. Activists argue that these alternative sites had a higher value than the original land in Kesaru. The issue came to light when a person named, Manjunath Swamy claimed the Kesaru land was his ancestral property, saying his uncle sold it fraudulently to Mallikarjun Swamy.
Now, in a significant development, a Special Court in Karnataka has ordered a Lokayukta police investigation into CM Siddaramaiah, While the BJP calls for Siddaramaiah's resignation, he maintains that the land transfer was legal and highlights that the BJP was in power when his wife received the plots. The case has intensified political tensions in Karnataka, but the truth will only emerge after the investigation.
