In This Video We Are Looking At Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5: A Modular Take on the Raspberry Pi 5.
The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 (CM5) is now available, offering a compact, modular version of the Raspberry Pi 5. This release introduces new features and expanded connectivity options tailored for embedded systems and custom projects.
Key Features of Raspberry Pi CM5
The CM5 is powered by a 2.4GHz quad-core 64-bit ARM Cortex-A76 processor and supports three memory configurations: 2GB, 4GB, or 8GB LPDDR4X-4267 SDRAM. Storage options include 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB of eMMC memory, making it versatile for various applications.
Graphics and multimedia capabilities include the VideoCore VII GPU, supporting OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.3, a 4Kp60 HEVC decoder, dual 4K HDMI outputs, and support for MIPI DSI/CSI-2 camera and display interfaces.
Advanced Connectivity
The module includes:
Gigabit Ethernet with Power-over-Ethernet Plus (PoE+) support
M.2 M-key PCIe for storage
Optional dual-band Wi-Fi (802.11ac) and Bluetooth 5.0
Two USB 3.0 ports for high-speed data transfer
The GPIOs offer extensive flexibility with support for UART, SPI, I2C, I2S, SDIO, PWM, and more.
Backward Compatibility and Design Improvements
The CM5 is mechanically compatible with the previous Compute Module 4 but introduces four M2.5 mounting holes for better stability. Its small form factor makes it suitable for various embedded applications.
Development Kit and Accessories
For developers, a dedicated kit is available that includes:
CM5 with Wi-Fi, 4GB RAM, and 32GB eMMC storage
IO board with HDMI ports, USB connectors, and more
CM5 Cooler for efficient thermal management
Antenna kit, USB-C power supply, and additional cables
Official accessories, such as an IO case and a cooling solution, further enhance the usability of the CM5 in embedded projects.
Pricing and Availability
The Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5 starts at $45 for the 2GB RAM and 32GB storage version. A variant with 16GB RAM is expected to launch in 2025. Accessories and the development kit are also available through authorized retailers.
With its robust performance and modular design, the Raspberry Pi CM5 aims to simplify the creation of custom embedded solutions.
