Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty (BAV) is a surgical procedure used to treat aortic stenosis and is suggested to patients who are not suitable for open heart surgery. Patients are asked to fast for 6 hours before the procedure. During the procedure, a deflated balloon is attached to a catheter that is passed through a blood vessel in your leg up the narrowed valve. The balloon is then inflated to widen the valve, which allows easy blood flow. The balloon is then deflated and removed. Post-procedure, the patient is kept under observation in the ICU. The doctor will recommend follow-up visits depending on your condition.
