Marilyn Manson's Resurrection From Bully to Icon - Marilyn Manson
The American rock band Marilyn Manson was formed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 1989 by lead singer Marilyn Manson and guitarist Daisy Berkowitz. The band was originally called Marilyn Manson & the Spooky Kids and developed a local cult following in South Florida in the early 1990s for their theatrical live performances. In 1992, the band shortened their name to Marilyn Manson, and continued to perform and release cassettes until 1993, when Trent Reznor signed them to his Nothing Records label.
The band's early work had an industrial sound, but was also influenced by glam rock and goth. For example, Manson said he was inspired by 1970s glam rock for his 1998 album Mechanical Animals, and adopted a similar wardrobe and hairstyle to David Bowie.
Some other band members have included:
Zim Zum (Timothy Linton): Played guitar from 1996–1998
John 5 (John Lowery): Played guitar from 1998–2004
Tim Skold: Played bass, keyboards, and backing vocals from 2002–2008
Chris Vrenna: Played keyboards, synthesizers, programming samples, and drums from 2007–2011
