Out of the box the setup we poor. I can understand detuned strings to reduce tension on the neck but the truss rod was way way out. If I was a beginner I would be put off. Thankfully all you need is a tuner, a capo and a set of imperial feeler gauges, a cross head screwdriver and the allen wrenches supplied with the guitar, a few watches of some of Daves World of Fun Stuff videos and you can setup like a pro.
The weather is very warm here in UK so will leave it overnight before I review the settings. But I got the action to 12/1000 at 8th fret. 4/64 string height. Didn't check nut height but equally didn't notice any detune at low frets.
I am loving the colour and maple fingerboard. This will certainly become a slap monster.
TO DO
Shield
Fix earthing to bridge.
Check if volume pota are 250k log (often linear and sometimes 500k used).
Fit new Schaler type strap locks to allow exchange with favourite bass strap
Possibly fit higher mas bridge to reduce neck dive - but the strap will do that.
Possibly fit lighter tuning pegs to help reduce neck dive.
Seems reasonably quiet but if I find normal hot single coil noise I might fit a dummy coil.
New strings.
Play it at some gigs once sorted.
£250 + maybe another £100 of which I would have to spend at least £80 on any bass (strings, strap locks, pots) - i am cool with that.
Oh one person suggests turning bridge pickup thru 180 degrees gives a Markus Miller sound. Might try that. Of course I also need to practice to get even close to his sound :-)
