SPEEDING TICKETS

Under NRS 484B.600, it is a misdemeanor in Nevada to drive faster than the posted speed limit. But it may be possible to fight speeding allegations and win. Five potential defenses are:

1. The police made a mistake. Perhaps their radar gun malfunctioned, or perhaps the police pulled over the wrong vehicle.
2. There was an emergency that justified speeding, such as being chased by a deranged driver.
3. The driver was falsely accused. Perhaps the police issued a bogus citation to meet a quota.
4. The driver had a medical episode and lost control, such as during a diabetic seizure. Or
5. The car malfunctioned and accelerated at no fault of the driver.
