India is facing a wave of diplomatic outrage after a spokesperson from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party made incendiary comments about the Prophet Muhammad.
Nupur Sharma's comments drew sharp condemnation from several Muslim nations such as Saudi Arabia, while Qatar and Iran summoned Indian envoys there. Kuwaiti stores have removed Indian products from shelves. Sharma says she did not intend to offend, and was responding to a question about a Hindu god during a TV debate. Another spokesperson for the BJP, Naveen Jindal, was expelled from the party, for comments he shared about Islam on social media.
