A summer Christmas in Queenstown, New Zealand, is a celebration of contrasts and vibrant beauty, where the festive spirit meets the lush embrace of nature. Nestled between majestic mountains and the shimmering waters of Lake Wakatipu, the town comes alive under long, sunlit days and the soft warmth of the southern hemisphere's summer. Here, Christmas is not bound by snow and sleigh bells but is reimagined as a celebration of togetherness, the outdoors, and the unique rhythm of a New Zealand summer—a time to cherish nature, community, and the simple joys of life.
Queenstown (Māori: Tāhuna) is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealand's South Island. It is the largest town in the Queenstown-Lakes District. The town located on the northwestern edge of Lake Wakatipu, a long, thin, Z-shaped lake formed by glacial processes, and has views of nearby mountains such as The Remarkables, Cecil Peak, Walter Peak and just above the town, Ben Lomond and Queenstown Hill. Queenstown is known for its tourism businesses, especially adventure and ski tourism.
Queenstown is described by Statistics New Zealand as a medium urban area with an area of 86.61 km2 (33.44 sq mi). It had an urban population of 29,000 (June 2023), making it the 24th-largest urban area in New Zealand. In 2016, Queenstown overtook Oamaru to become the second-largest urban area in Otago, behind Dunedin.
