As we look ahead to Smt T Balasaraswati's 106th Birth Anniversary next month , BrindaMukthi curates an immortal varnam made her own. We have digitally remastered it for our rasikas.

As seen all through her career , Smt T Balasaraswati stayed true to the margam format or "kutcheri melam" as referred to in yesteryears and emphasized the importance and gradual succession in the order of the pieces performed in a margam. In her Presidential Speech at the Tamil Isai Sangam , she compares the Varnam to the Garbha-Griha or the Sanctum Sanctorum in a a holy shrine giving it prime importance as the very core to the majestic margam. It is fitting to say that she stayed faithful to her Guru Parampara of Sri Kandappa Nattuvanar whose forefathers , the Tanjore Quartet codified and structured for the proscenium stage.

Mohamana En Meedil , a monumental composition of the Quartet in the raga Bhairavi showcases the magnificence and grandeur of Lord Tyagarajaswamy , the presiding deity of the temple town of Tiruvarur in Southern India.
The nayaka nayika bhava brought out in this ornate piece shows both the passion and devotion that the nayika holds for her beloved Lord and extolls his virtues to her sakhi while troubled unable to bear the pangs of love and separation.
