In a young, non-lactating female presenting with breast tenderness, ultrasound imaging of fibroadenosis (fibrocystic changes) typically shows a heterogeneous, dense glandular texture with increased echogenicity. There may be prominent, mildly dilated ducts, often in the retroareolar area, sometimes containing fluid or debris. Small, simple cysts may also be present, appearing as round or oval anechoic structures with posterior acoustic enhancement. The tissue shows increased fibrous elements, creating a lumpy appearance but lacking a distinct, well-defined mass. Occasionally, there is mild to moderate vascularity in tender areas on color Doppler, though no focal abnormality is usually detected. These findings correlate with cyclic tenderness due to hormonal influences and are generally benign. Management is often conservative, focusing on symptom relief through pain medications and lifestyle adjustments, with periodic follow-up for reassurance.
