With a vision to build skills and language proficiency for the next generation of youth, Boys and Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico manages the Students Taking Action and Getting Results (STAR) English Program. The program closes language gaps and provides participants with new skills and opportunities in a safe environment. After getting its start as a pilot program in Loíza, 87% of youth scored average or above average on English language proficiency testing. Following the success of the first site, the Club now operates STAR at four locations across Puerto Rico. In the future, Boys and Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico hopes to be a bilingual Club. In recognition of the program’s substantial impact in youth development, STAR English Program has been nominated as a Promise Awards Finalist!
