Two world altitude records in 2 days! Airbus Perlan Mission II pilots Jim Payne and Miguel Iturmendi soared to 65,605 feet in pressure altitude on Tuesday, August 28, in El Calafate, Argentina. This broke an earlier record flight achieved on Sunday, August 26, flown by Payne and pilot Morgan Sandercock that reached a pressure altitude of over 62,000 feet. The 65,600-foot flight set a new gliding altitude world record, pending official validation.
The Airbus Perlan Mission II team will be pursuing mission flights through September 15, continuously attempting to break world records while pushing the boundaries of science and aerospace technology and in pursuit of scientific discoveries.
