Jaufen Pass - Passo di Monte Giovo - South Tyrol in Italy

1. I’ve just been to Stelvio and now on SS44 heading to Jaufen Pass
2. Although it isn’t as cold now as it was earlier at the top of Stelvio
3. The chill still hit me hard enough to make this ride less enjoyable
4. The distance between the two passes is just over 100km
5. Wish I had a bit sunnier day, that would have made this ride truly amazing
6. Elevation is 2094m and expecting it to be quite bitter up there
7. So I took a short break in San Leonardo to warm up before the climb
8. It is the northernmost pass in the Alps that is completely in Italy
9. Connects the Eisacktal valley in the east with the Passeiertal valley in the west
10. Starting point of the pass road is San Leonardo and ending in the east village Sterzing
11. The way up was grim and damp but the view took my mind of the conditions
12. Road surface is moderate, yet the route up is rather wide and forgiving
13. Half way up, I hit a thick fog cloud where visibility was as poor as 10m
14. On the pass summit you will find some kind of a log cabin
15. You can stop there for some food and hot drink
16. I had a very tight schedule so I just kept on going
17. Passing the summit you have a beautiful view of the Eisacktal valley
18. Once you reach the timber line the road becomes rather narrow with lots of curves
19. Road winds itself down through some smaller forests and meadows
20. Shame about the weather, this is a very nice route
21. I would highly recommend that you have a go at this one
