The United Arab Emirates welcomed the new year in Dubai with a mesmerizing display of lights, fireworks and music from the world's tallest building, the iconic Burj Khalifa.
The light show paid tribute to front-line health workers amid the coronavirus pandemic and displayed words of hope for 2021.
The UAE has imposed restrictions to slow the spread of COVID-19 on New Year’s Eve, including limiting social gatherings to 30 and under, and masks must be worn. For nearly 10 minutes, fireworks lit the sky over Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, as hundreds of thousands gathered downtown to watch the spectacular display.
The New Year’s Eve display at the 828-meter-tall (2,716-foot-tall) skyscraper is just one of seven different fireworks shows across the emirate.
