SBCH2103: Organic Chemistry is one of several courses offered by the Faculty of Science, Open University Malaysia (OUM).
Organic chemistry is an important chemistry subject which studies compounds of carbon. Most of these compounds are important to life (plants, animals and humans). The subject is thus basic to other specialized subjects, such as medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and biochemistry, and has wide applications in industries such as petrochemical, agricultural and pharmaceutical industries.
This multimedia teaching tool introduces students to the fascinating world of chemistry through exploration of everyday materials. Starting with what matters most (matter!), we cover almost all the elements of organic and inorganic chemistry and how it ties into bonding. We then explore molecular geometries, Lewis structures and hybridisation. The teaching tool concludes with an investigation of the physical behaviour of gases.
