In response to a Superior Court judge's decision to exempt her and her judiciary colleagues from paying their fair share of increased contribution rates for pension and health benefits, Governor Chris Christie today announced that he would, if necessary, seek an amendment to the New Jersey Constitution to have judges treated equally with the hundreds of thousands of other public employees and retirees who are sharing in the sacrifice to repair and sustain New Jersey's public employee retirement and health benefits programs. Governor Christie: It's an outrageous interpretation and has absolutely no validity in our common understanding of language. This is why I love these members of the judiciary. They get there and they forget English. They decide where they want the case to go and then they distort and contort language in order to get them there. There's no other way to read this decision yesterday than that way. You know, the interesting part of it is to show you just how elitist they are when the other public employees were suing over this public pension reform asked to join the suit she said no. They're not appropriate to join this suit. But her friends the judges, the people she goes to the dinners with, the people who vote on giving each other awards, the little cliquey club of 432 they're the only ones who can receive these really extraordinary benefits. I have to tell you, I haven't seen anything, anything, this makes the conduct of the executive director of the PVSC look like he was public spirited.
