That awful squeaking noise you can hear coming from the AM radio sitting beside the motor, is interference coming from the motor controller.

It's been said that you couldn't use the AM radio in the GM EV1, After seeing this I can say that was probably true.

This is actually part of my EV project, The video was taken with the 3 phase motor being powered by batteries, which are fed directly into the DC bus of an industrial variable frequency drive.

The motor controller makes so much interference because it only outputs square wave pulses, since it uses IGBTs for it's inverter.

The coil windings inside the motor concentrate the magnetic field, with little to shield them from other devices.
