Former USWNT starting goalkeeper and bonafide GOAT, Hope Solo sits down with “60 Minutes Sports” anchor, Norah O’Donnell on February 7th, 2017, in a piece airing on Showtime to discuss in-depth what life has been like off the pitch since being fired by US Soccer for calling the Swedish Women’s National Team “cowards” after Team USA’s heartbreaking defeat to them on penalty kicks in the 2016 Rio Olympics Quarterfinal held at stadium Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha in Brasilia, Brazil. Hope is followed by the crew as she travels cross-country in an RV with her husband, ex-NFL player (tight-end), Jerramy Stevens and her three family dogs, all Doberman Pinschers, from their old home in Seattle, Washington to their new home in North Carolina, which they’re currently building. O'Donnell first had the opportunity to interview Hope in Primetime during a CBS “60 Minutes” piece covering the team's filing of a wage complaint with the EEOC against employer US Soccer for pay disparity in comparison with the USMNT. In this new interview, Hope and Norah discuss the progress of that complaint and where it stands today, with Hope suggesting that her former teammates are caving to Federation pressure and scare tactics after declining to strike as planned and firing lawyer, Rich Nichols, whom Hope herself had initially recruited. Solo also reflects on her long and storied tenure with the USWNT, the epic records she set during that time, how she first became a goalkeeper to begin with, her off-field run-ins with the law, including her husband’s DUI, which led to her first US Soccer suspension (30 days) and an ongoing domestic violence case involving her half-sister and 17-year old nephew, the status of her recovery from shoulder replacement surgery, her desire to play and compete once again for the USWNT in the 2019 Women’s World Cup (WWC) in France, the fact that she has not been contacted by any US Soccer staff members since her firing, including both President, Sunil Gulati, who declined to be interviewed and Head Coach, Jill Ellis, who Solo called a “poor leader and bad tactician” and, ultimately, what she believes history will one day say about the legacy of Hope Solo.
