Nakuru Beyond the City episode 11 takes us to Langa Langa. Once upon a time, this area was a racetrack for the old school Formula One vehicles. The locals used to call them Langa Langa. There was a 10km motor racing circuit here and major events happened between the 1950s to the mid 1980s. It must have been such a thrilling experience to the locals for years.
History has it that the oil crisis of late 1970s made it difficult for the events to continue in Kenya and so through the later years, land companies took over the vast acreage left behind, subdividing it into plots for residential development.
Fast forward to 2023, the area is known as Langa Langa and it's cosmopolitan in nature. It has the best road network in Nakuru, perhaps it's something borrowed from the original racetrack around, but still we give Langa Langa the credit they deserve in road infrastructure.
Elsewhere, the famous Kanu street that cuts across Langa Langa east to west, was once notorious for nightlife, but this may have reduced due to the infiltration of residential homes in the area.
People of all religious denominations have something here, and there are several public and private schools.
Overall, Langa Langa is vibrant but it has immense potential to become a business district, owing to its proximity to the Nakuru CBD plus the great road network.
