When you’re a new real estate agent, you need a good mentor to start with as you learn the ropes of the real estate industry. The best thing is to partner with someone who can give you opportunities, yet so many real estate team leaders fail at this and then wonder why agents leave them. If you’re providing value to someone on your team, they'll stay, but if you’re not, they’ll leave. It’s truly as simple as that.
Value isn’t just coaching or watching someone else do their thing either, it’s being able to directly provide them opportunities. One thing I’m very proud of offering with JMG is a direct way to provide that value. If you put the agents first, and you second, you can provide so many opportunities that you might feel compelled to work, but don’t actually need to do, and it creates opportunities for others and leverage for you.
Real estate is a game of leverage, and providing that opportunity is really how you climb the totem pole. Even when I was still in the field as Arizona’s top agent, I still had 6 or 7 people under me who I gave opportunities to. It allowed me to pick and choose the deals I actually wanted to work and that’s the ultimate set up for someone who wants to sell houses.
Being a real estate agent is a story of growth. In order to grow, you have to help other people in their own goals to grow. JMG was built on that circle of leverage. I built JMG on nothing and have been at every single level within this industry, so I know better than anyone that it can be done. You don’t have to do what JMG does either. Just look at where you’re at, where you want to be and what steps you can take to get there. You start locally, then look to scale to whatever level you want to get to. It could just be just your community, city, state or all the way up to a national scale, just stay focused on what that vision is.
There’re tiers to each level in real estate, from struggling new agents to mega teams. Understanding what level you’re at in your career will tell you what you need to do. When I first started, I manifested that our team was the Top 50 in the world on our business cards. It was a complete stretch at the time, but I genuinely believed it to be possible. Now we have the biggest team in the country. But not everyone needs to be #1. If you just want it to be you and an assistant, that’s totally ok. Just make sure the machine does what it needs to at your scale. You’ll never break 40-50mm in volume a year with that approach, there’s just too much going on at that level to do it yourself, but that isn’t for everyone.
