A very rare and unexpected visitor appeared at Manchester Airport today. An Atlas Air 747-8 registered 'N850GT' was diverted to Manchester due to heavy fog in London Stansted where it was originally planned to arrive. Plane spotters at the Runway Visitor Park were curious as to why the 747 was holding. Once they had realised it was no longer going to Stansted the next question was would be going to East Midlands Airport or would it be coming to Manchester? The callsign 'Giant 603' was heard over Manchester Radar's frequency before being cleared to land on runway 23R by the tower controller. N850GT touched down around 11:20am and was met on the taxiway by a follow me vehicle to take it to the stand.
Please excuse the shaky footage! I was using the fence post in place of my tripod because this arrival was so unexpected there was no time to get it out!
