Today we share with you the next 'Deep story', developed in the framework of our collaboration with the Covid Photo Museum
"It’s been the cruelest day.
On March 19, 2020, a picture taken overnight with a mobile phone was making global headlines: it showed a convoy of military vehicles parading in the streets of Bergamo, in those days the world’s epicenter of the pandemic.
Coffins were stored inside a dusty warehouse along with road signs, building materials, and a bunch of chrysanthemums. Outside, the reverse gear noise of a forklift was breaking a deep silence".
Photographer Emanuele Cremaschi on behalf of Getty Images shared with us his 'deep story' about the terrifying events that took place in Italian city Bergamo last March.
Bergamo will always be a weeping symbol of the first wave of the pandemic: it has reported over 3.000 coronavirus-related deaths. They could rise to 6.000, if compared to the average of deaths registered over the same period in recent years.
Many thanks to Emanuele Cremaschi, Covid Photo Museum, and the Rotterdam Photo Production team
