Former US president Barack Obama has sent a message of support to the residents of Hawaii affected by the deadly wildfires.
Obama said efforts needed to be “stepped up” and that thoughts and prayers “in a moment like this are not enough”, as he urged members of the public to donate to aid those affected.
On Monday authorities said the death toll from the wildfires stands at 96, making it the deadliest in the US for more than a century.
In a video posted online, Obama said: “We now find ourselves mourning the lives that are lost in our thoughts and prayers to the families that have lost so much.”
