The Transalpina Road (officially known as DN67C) is the highest paved road in Romania. It stretches 148 km (92 miles) from Novaci in Gorj County to Sebeş in Alba County, running through the Carpathian Mountains. With a maximum altitude of 2,145 meters (7,037 feet) at Urdele Pass, this exhilarating drive offers breathtaking views and hundreds of turns. It’s quite famous and popular due to the thrilling driving experience and stunning natural surroundings. The road was inaugurated in 1938 by King Charles II and was rebuilt during World War II by German troops for military purposes. It’s usually open from mid-May to November or December, depending on weather conditions.
