Indian regulators have stopped production at Maiden Pharmaceuticals after the World Health Organisation raised concerns that its cough syrups have caused the deaths of 66 children in the Gambia.
Authorities say the company ignored at least 12 quality control rules.
Maiden Pharmaceuticals has not commented on the allegations to date.
