The Stanserhornbahn funicular first opened in 1893 with three sections from Stans (Canton of Nidwald, Switzerland) to the summit of Stanserhorn mountain (1898m).
In 1970, the summit hotel and the driving engine for the third section were destroyed by lightning. As a result, second and third funicular section were abandoned and replace by an aerial cable tramway.
In 2012 this aerial cable car was replaced by "CabriO" the world's first double deck open top aerial cable car.
