The addition of a high-end Signature trim and the 2.5-liter turbocharged engine from the CX-9 has Mazda hoping its Mazda6 sedan’s trim lineup finally has the breadth to attract buyers on both ends of the pricing spectrum. A base Sport trim Mazda6 will start below $22,000 with the 187-hp, naturally aspirated 2.5-liter engine from past models, while the most expensive Signature trim starts close to $35,000 and features the aforementioned turbo 4-cylinder—good for 250 horsepower with premium fuel.
Sure to attract even more customers, the Mazda Connect infotainment system will now be available with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Shoppers who buy a Mazda6 in the first half of 2018 will be able to have the system software upgraded to run the smartphone-interfacing applications at the dealership, starting in July.
Although no all-wheel-drive model exists, the Mazda6 does provide a compelling option for shoppers still in the market for a midsize sedan. Sharp looks, sharper handling, and now a powerful engine option should put this car on everyone’s test-drive list.
