To join the ‘re-beasted’ 1290 Super Duke R, KTM has released two new EURO 5 compliant motorcycle the KTM 890 Duke R.

Based on the 790 Duke DNA, the 890 produces more power, more torque, and less harmful emissions from its parallel twin motor. And it has ‘racier’ rider ergonomics. Fitting, considering it’s nicknamed the ‘Super Scalpel’...

It makes a fairly potent 119bhp (89kW) @ 9,250 and 73lb-ft (99Nm) @ 7,750rpm. That’s a 16hp and 9lb-ft gain compared to the 790. Its peak power is produced slightly later in the rev range, but it does have more immediate torque.

Blingy new radially-mounted Brembo Stylema four-pot calipers biting a pair of 320mm discs produce the stopping power - cornering ABS is standard. The 890 is equipt with cornering traction control too, which is enabled by the Bosch 9.1 MP IMU-equipped braking controller. The rear caliper is a single pot, still working on a 240mm disc.
