Fifty-five years ago, for the first time a Black woman was elected to the United States (US) Congress.
And if you think that Hilary Clinton was the first woman to run for the US Democratic party’s presidential nomination, think again.
That credit belongs to that same Black woman, who got into Congress in 1968. She was also the first Black person to run for US president, long before Barack Obama.
