Being aware of various methods to repack the stern gland greaser, I am going to show you what I regard as the simplest way to do it.
An explanation of what the stern gland greaser does, is given towards the end of the video. Basically, the propeller shaft passes through a brass tube, which is packed with overlapping coils of graphite impregnated rope, compressed around the shaft by a collar. The stern gland greaser, when screwed down, forces water resistant grease into the stern gland to keep it lubricated and sealed, to prevent water ingress into the boat. It should be tightened regularly, as part of routine maintenance.
