Russia: Paratroopers train with clockwork precision

Paratroops from the 98th Guards Airborne Troops Division based in Ivanovo carried out simulated airborne assaults near Rostov-on-Don on Thursday.

Launching from Il-76 transport aircraft, the paratroopers carried out a textbook high-altitude drop and controlled descent, before deploying troops and BMD-3 armoured vehicles to secure the drop site.

Around 4,000 paratroopers and around 36 aircraft were involved in the exercises.

The drills were carried out as part of a coordinated training exercise ordered by the country's Defence Ministry, which also included night operations by special forces and simulated engagements
