At the 2021 FAST Forward Together Global Science Summit: Focus on Angelman Syndrome Translational Research, Dr. Jim Wilson gave this inspiring message to our community:
"My view of where we are now is that we’re at an intersection of 3 issues:
[Angelman syndrome] is a disease for which the genetic basis is complicated but provides the deployment of unique molecular approaches. The second is that, for those of us working in science, we’re stunned by the development of new technologies. I don’t think that any of us would have expected that we would have the tools that we have now. The third is the community- FAST and the patients. I work with a lot [of foundations]. FAST is unique, in the upper 1% or more of foundations that believe in science and believe that science is the answer. When FAST talks about science they want to hear about what may be possible, not what is feasible.
"When you bring these three things together, I know of no other community that has opportunities for real transformative solutions than those in the Angelman community. So kudos to the community and leadership of FAST for having this vision and bringing us all together."
