Toccata for Joe is an homage to Joe Pass, the great master of fingerstyle jazz guitar. The piece is a traditional Toccata, employing idiomatic and virtuosic techniques that will be familiar to most guitarists. To achieve a sense of “Joe-ness” in this homage, I utilized a handful of melodic fragments from my favorite of Joe’s enormous repertoire of standards, the Rogers and Hart classic “Have You Met Miss Jones.”
