Moments after it was announced that Guyanese visitors can travel to the United Kingdom (UK) without a visa from next month, President Dr. Irfaan Ali told reporters that the Guyana government is hoping to secure the local issuance of the Schengen visa needed to travel in 26 European countries. This Schengen visa is issued in Suriname and local business players are among those who have complained of the inconvenience of travelling to the neighbouring country for this service. But the President said this could be resolved soon and revealed that Guyana also has its eye set on securing visa-free travel beyond this hurdle.
