After sharing her personal story and participating at AS/COA Women's Hemispheric Network first conference in São Paulo, Marina Silva spoke with AS/COA Online about how women can increase participation in politics.
The former environmental minister and senator, who ran for president in the country's 2014 elections, said the world is going through a deep crisis of values and that women can be part of a new form of activism or political voice today.
Silva advises young women to follow their dreams, creating opportunities even if they are not presented as an option just yet. "There is a difference between choosing and opting. To opt is to have what already exists. To choose is sometimes choosing what doesn’t exist yet and make yourself available to create your own choice."
