The Telangana government on Tuesday announced a night curfew from 9pm to 5 is, till May 1 in a bid to control the second wave of the pandemic.
The orders came a day after the high court pulled up the state for not taking any action to curb the spread of the pandemic.
The state reported 5,926 new Covid cases, the highest ever in a single day, pushing the tally to over 3.61 lakh, while the toll rose to 1856 with 18 more fatalities.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued an order laying down guidelines for effective control of Covid-19 providing for states to impose local restrictions to prevent the spread of Covid-19 based on the assessment of the situation.
The various measures to control Covid-19 in the state have been reviewed.
"It is decided to introduce night curfew in the state for the period from 9pm to next day till May 1 as a further measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19," read the order issued by the chief secretary, Telangana Somesh Kumar.
Movement of all persons shall be prohibited from 9pm onwards except people engaged in essential services, state and central government officers on emergency duty, medical personnel, pregnant women, patients and persons coming from/going to airports, railway stations, bus stands on the production of a valid ticket.
The order specified that during the above mentioned period all offices, firms, shops, establishments restaurants etc. shall close at 8pm except hospitals, diagnostic labs, pharmacies and those dealing with supply of essential services such as print and electronic media, telecommunications, internet services, broadcasting and cable services, IT and IT-enabled services.
Delivery of all goods through e-commerce, petrol pumps, LPG, CNG, petroleum and gas outlets, power generation, transmission and distribution, water supply and sanitation, cold storage and warehousing services, private security services and production units or services which require continuous process will be allowed.
