In memory of "151st Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi".
Indian Association Hannover in cooperation with India in Germany (Consulate General of India, Hamburg) celebrated ‘The International Day of Non-Violence’. The Government of India has decided to observe the period of two years, culminating on 2nd October 2020, as 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Iash Board would like to express gratitude to all the distinguished guests Mr. Madan L Raigar , Consular General of India, Hamburg; Mr. Thomas Hermann, First Mayor of the City of Hannover, keynote speaker, Mr. Sopan Joshi, a journalist and author from Delhi (India), Mr. Stephan Handwerker, Managing Director, International School Hannover Region, Mr. Stephan Kaps, Head of Culture, VHS Hannover, Mr. Smay Thiyagarajan and Mr. Matthias Weidtler, Managing Directors of Coracle GmbH.
Another highlight of the event was the presentation of the “Indo-German Champion Award” to Dr. Michael Seitz, Head of India Desk, IHK Hannover and Dr. Ernst Kuersten, President, Deutsch-Indische Gesellschaft Hannover. Dr. Seitz’s efforts to create business relations between Indian & German companies and Dr. Kürsten’s tireless work over decades to promote Indian culture through DIG and constant support towards IASH Board were appreciated and recognized.
The winners of the Sarojini Naidu-Leibniz Awards (jointly awarded by IASH & ISG) were announced by Indian Students in Germany, Dr. Avinash Chekuru. Indian Students Association Technische Universität Hamburg (ISATUHH), Frankfurt Indian Scholars Association (FISA) and Association of Indian students in Aachen (AISA) were joint winners for their contribution towards promoting the needs of Indian students in Germany. Mr. Smay Thiyagarajan and Mr. Matthias Weidtler, Managing Directors of Coracle GmbH, sponsor of the award, shortly addressed the audience.
Thank you to Ms. Rosy Dutta for beautiful rendition of the song “Vaishnav Jan To” and Ms. Sayali Godbole Valsangikar for “Raghupati Raghav” (the background song for the following video). Special thanks for the effort put in by Ms. Priya Jadhav for the short compiled video of kids (Sameer Rohadia, Deepa Subramanian, Darsana Rajendran, Ritika Rashmi, Kritika Bharadwaj, Mairali Majmudar). A token of gratitude to Mr. Prateik Desai for "A quiz based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi" and having a full involvement of the audience.
