70% of our sails are partially salt affected and patches of badly salt affected soils are scattered throughout Punjab. Wheat is fairly salt tolerant crop but its germination is hindered in such soils. If once germination is acquired, it may be raised successfully through the use of acidic fertilizers. For example 12.5 kg of urea phosphate 18:44 may be fertigated along with 25-30 kg of urea fertilizer at 1st irrigation and the same amount of acidic NPK 16:22:23 (Swat Agro) at 2nd irrigation may give it as good boost as in healthy soils. Use of sulphur coated urea is also suggested. Defficiency of Phosphorus may also be compensated with 1-2 sprays of Speedfol P within 1st two months of planting.
